Posted on September 15, 2017Today we tell about how was the fame of the Marmore Falls arrive to the geographical antipodes, or far, and during that time unkown and misterious, Australia.
The author of these paintings that are the images of this article, the Austrian writer Eugene Von Guerard (was born in Vienna in 1811) has ilved his youth in Naples where his father Bernhard worked as an artisti of court by Ferdinando II, King of the two Sicilies. After his father's death in 1836, Von Guerard remained in Naples for two years, then he went to Düsseldorf crossing the centre of Italy. After having been visited Sora and Rome, we know throug his notebooks that between the 14 and the 15 July stayed near Terni, and then moved to Spoleto. The artist painted the Nera river then the Piediluco Lake, the Castle and the Towers bridge of Spoleto.
The canvas of the Marmore Falls has been paitned only in 1845, that of the Piediluco Lake in 1847.
Von Guerard abbandoned Dusseldorf in 1848, to go to California. In 1852 raised anchor from England towards the American continent. In his diary wrote about his unfortunately year to the research of the gold deposits. From America went after to Australia in 1854, where lived for 16 years, travelling and painting these regions: Victoria, Tasmania, New South Wales, South Australia and New Zeland. We are not sure if he travelled another time in Italy but it is probably that he visited the Marmore Falls for the second time because there is another painting where the Marmore and the Nerina Valley is painted and it is dated back to the 1895.
