The Roman Amphitheatre| Terni

The amphitheatre is the main archaeological fitness of the Roman city in Terni; during the ancient time was an area inside the walls but suburban in relation to the residential area Interamna Nahars, next to the door (destroyed but located in Piazza Briccialdi) through whose the Flaminia, reaching from Narni, entered the city. Even thug the superimposition of the structures of the late period, as the Church Carmine and the Episcopal Palace, that has been founded on the ancient walls, the characteristics of the elliptical form (the biggest axis m. 97,50, the smallest axis m. 73) is clearly readable in all its perimeter.
Built in ten years of the I century AD in opus reticolatum (with cubilia travertine stones and calcareous elements), has a façade, visible inside where are the public gardens. Inside are still visible the passage way covered with vaults, different radial rooms that supported the stairs.
In the space between this and the perimeter of the arena, are to put a second ring of rooms and the podium, with related service, elements that at the moment, not visible because underground. Any traces of the stairs of the cavea to enter to the second floor. Exhausted the function for the exhibition buildings, with the end of the Roman empire, and after a period of abandon during whom its structures had to be under the purloining for building other kind of construction. The monument since the medieval period was interested to a consist on religious and residential use, documented by sources and finds brought to light during the excavation campaigns.

THE INTEGRATED TICKET THE INTEGRATED TICKET gives the possibility to spare and visit 5 museums: it includes the archaeological site of Carsulae, the museums in Caos ex Siri, the permanent palaeontology exhibition and the Roman amphitheatre (on booking). The integrated tickets are available to the ticket-offices of Caos or to the archaeological area of Carsulae.
