Guided visit to the lower outlook (Byron Square) and along the routes inside the park where it will be also possible do trekking and speleological activities (we advise you to wear comfortable clothes and suitable trekking shoes). Marmore Falls, with its 165 metres, is the highest in Europe. It was artificially built by the Romans in 271 b.Ch. in order to drain the Reatine plain, often swamped by the overflowing of the Velino river. By using a natural difference in ground elevation, the stagnant waters were canalized in the valley underneath the Nera river. Today the falls offer a wonderful spectacle. Marmore Falls is of great importance also in economical point of view for providing electricity to the power plants located near Papigno. There is also a small centre which has become famous for the modern theatres and the cinematographic studios where Benigni filmed “la vita è bella” and “Pinocchio”. These studios, where several fictions for television are produced, people can enter during the break in filming and visit it.

During the tour you have the possibility to admire the countryside of Terni. A very interesting place to visit is the medieval town of San Gemini, known for its mineral waters which are famous all over the world.

Arrival at the Museum and Information Centre of Carsulae.
Guided visit to the ancient Roman town that was established along the Via Flaminia as a military point and became a town in 27 b.Ch.. A connecting point between Rome and the Adriatic Sea, it became an important crossroad for the nobles of the Roman empire who built buildings of public interests like: the forum, the entrance arch to the town, the theatre, the amphitheatre and the monumental tombs. The visit finishes in the museum where some finds from the archaeological excavations brought to the light.

It is an ancient town which preserves the interesting megalithic polygonal walls, probably built during the III century b.Ch. During the Roman empire the town lived a period of greatness as testifies the ruins of the baths, the thesaurus and the cisterns.

Visit to the archaeological museum in Amelia and guided visit. The museum contains inscriptions, sculptures, architectonical elements of the great value. Among these we remember the precious statue of the roman soldier Germanicus.

A walk along the characteristic ancient streets of the centre of Amelia. Nowadays it is interesting to note still preserved entrance arch to the town, the main streets, the forum and the cistern that you can admire during the visit.

Along the return walk a short stop to Villalago, a neoclassical house immersed in the vegetation of the park with its old and longstanding trees, where in the open-air theatre there are important musical and theatrical exhibitions.

Arrival in Ferentillo where you can admire suggestive glimpses of the ancient military structures also visible along the road before coming to St. Stefano church, inside we can find the museum of mummies visited with a guide. The finds in the museum are very interesting in an archaeological and scientific point of view because the phenomena of mummification was created in a natural way, and as a consequence, they give peculiarity to the place, creating a particular atmosphere. At the end of the visit you have the possibility to decide whether to visit the little village of Precetto until you arrive to the top of the fortress, where you can admire the valley below. The fourteenth century castles of Mattarella and Precetto represent, together with the Umbriano castle, the only defence system of St. Pietro in Valle Abbey.

Departure for St. Pietro in Valle Abbey and guided visit. The Abbey was built in 720 and represents the artistic and historical evidence of the high medieval age. Inside the church there are wonderful frescos with a representation of the ancient and the modern testament made at the end of the XI century and at the beginning of the XII century, it is situated in a one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Nera valley, preserving the fascination of the Umbrian ancient hermits and offers a natural scenery made also more interesting by the uninhabitated village of Umbriano.

Narni, the ancient Roman town, started as a colony and later became one of the most important municipalities of that period thanks to its strategic position and as a guard along Via Flaminia, a Roman consular road. During the medieval Age it became the symbol of Pontific Power and as proof there exists still today the Albornoz fortress and other monuments.

Arrival in Narni and free visit of the town with the possibility to admire the Cathedral, Priori Square with the Palace of Authority, St. Maria Impensole and St. Domenico churches.

Visit to the Albornoz fortress. Commissioned by the cardinal, the fortress was built in the second half of the XIV century and it is one of the most preserved places of the province. Inside there are paintings that belong to the Umbrian school of the XII century.
5.15p.m.
Departure for Narni, after a short trip we arrive at the “Sacro Speco” in St. Urbano. Completely immersed in green, it was built by St. Francis in 1213. Inside niche, of remarkable importance, where Saint Francis (il poverello of Assisi) prayed.
