Waterfall Routes
Route n. 1

It is the historic route of the falls that links the upper to the lower outlook. It was built with the Specola using the slope where the waters of the Paolino channel flowed down during the ancient time. It has an average difficulty and about 150 metres of a difference in height. The time needed is 40 minutes uphill and 25 minutes downhill. The route has, in some parts, natural ground and in some parts wooded stairs. During the walk you will be in a fantastic world of vegetation and caves, but you can’t see the falls; you can see it only when you reach the tunnel called the lover’s balcony. When you arrived there, you will be under the highest drop of the falls and appreciate the freshness of the water, having a shower! So we advise you a raincoat.

Route n. 2

It is easy to go in about 20 minutes; the route forms a ring and has about 40 metres of difference in height. The route leads, through little steps and small wooden bridges, right into the heart of the fall until lap the waters. At the second drop you can admire, at close range, the lateral cataract, the result of the last intervention made by the Architect Andrea Vici.

Route n. 3

This route is linked to the second one, it has about 15 metres of difference in height and easy to go in about 20 minutes. It leads in the lowest part of the falls. Along the narrow gorges of the Nera river, you have the possibility to see suggestive glimpses on the rapids and on the little falls. Walking down this route, you can see the strength of the Velino rivers which flows into the Nera river and if you are lucky you can also see people who challenge the whirlpool waters of the Nera river doing rafting.

Route n. 4

It has an average difficulty with about 90 metres of difference in height and the time needed is about 35 minutes (uphill and downhill). This route is isolated according to the others because it is on the facing side of the falls of Monte Pennarossa and it is reachable crossing the State Road 209 Valnerina at the lower outlook (Byron square). Through the stone steps you allow the access to two different panoramic points and you can admire the frontal view of the falls. Don’t desperate if you are tired… it is one of the widest and most beautiful views of the falls that you have never seen!

Route n.5

Easy to go in about 30 minutes. The route offers panoramic glimpses on the Nera Valley and give the possibility to see the artificial water basins of the former power plants as well as the strengthening structures of the rocks .
